Patient Support
"The whole treatment staff makes a connection with each patient."
—Jason Dixon, MPRI
Guiding the proton beam to the tumor...and guiding our patients through treatment.
Although our patients share a common bond, they each face a unique set of challenges. That's why treatment at MPRI goes well beyond the beam. Once you are accepted for treatment, our social services staff will contact you and connect you with the specific help and services you need. These can include:
- Counseling for both patients and family members
- Support groups for patients and family members
- Assistance in arranging housing, transportation, and meals
- Regular visits with social services staff throughout treatment to ensure that all your needs are being met
Community Resources
Getting out and exploring the community of Bloomington, IN, during your free time is healthy for your body and your spirit. As an MPRI patient, you'll receive:
- A complete information package about the surrounding area
- Referrals to community organizations
- Free access to the Monroe County YMCA and Bloomington Sportsplex
- Passes to IU and other community activities
- Discounts at restaurants, salons, and other local establishments
Children's Services
Because of the particular benefits that proton therapy can offer pediatric patients, our clinic is child-friendly—and so is our staff. They get to know each child and provide activities and toys designed around his or her unique interests. A few of the ways we can help make your child comfortable include:
- A playroom with toys, books, and games
- Recreational activities and play therapy
- Toys specially geared to your child's interests
- A cozy blanket with your child's favorite characters on it
- A calendar with stickers to mark off each day of treatment
- Passes to child-friendly activities in the area
- A party to celebrate the last day of treatment
