Referrals

MPRI accepts both physician-referred and self-referred patients.

The radiation oncologists and medical physicists at MPRI discuss an appropriate course of therapy for each patient in conjunction with the referring physicians and the patient, supported by an exchange of data, records, images, and correspondence. Dr. Allan Thornton also regularly attends medical review boards locally and regionally to evaluate cases and determine the most appropriate therapy regimen for each patient.

Protocols are generally fractionated and require a course of treatment similar to standard radiation therapy, although some may facilitate more fractions at escalated doses. Patients are usually asked to return to MPRI for at least one or two follow-up examinations during the first year after completion of the protocol, though longer follow-up is encouraged.
