"The town has open arms for our patients."

Bloomington Community

With the opening of MPRI, proton therapy is conveniently located in the Midwest for the first time. Our Bloomington, IN, location is ideally situated at the center of the 10 Midwestern states that are home to 25 percent of the U.S. population.

And not only is Bloomington easy to get to, it's even easier to get around once you're here. Your housing, a campus stroll, fishing at Griffy Lake, the Bryant Park playground, a workout at the YMCA, and the biggest lake in Indiana—it's all within a short drive of MPRI's facility.

When you first arrive, you'll simply want to drink in the quiet, peaceful atmosphere—the gently rolling hills and lush greenery. But once you've settled in and started treatment, there'll be time to explore Bloomington's unique mix of big-city culture and college town charm.

Getting out and about is a great way to relax in your free time. But whether you want to hit the ground running or just hit your pillow, you'll feel enveloped in Hoosier hospitality and community support for MPRI. In fact, our patients feel so welcome here that they often find it's hard to say goodbye.

Where to Stay
If you're staying for a night or two, you might want to check in to one of Bloomington's many hotels, many of which also offer extended stay packages and special rates for MPRI patients. Don't forget to mention the MPRI name to hotel staff to secure these special rates. And reserve early: events at IU can cause hotels to fill up.

Visit Places to Stay for a list of hotels, short–term apartments and other housing with special MPRI rates. Other housing options can be found by visiting www.visitbloomington.com.

MPRI is not affiliated with any private housing options, but we can connect you with local resources. Please contact our social services staff if you need assistance.

What to Do
Because treatment usually lasts less than an hour each day, you'll have plenty of time to explore Bloomington. Whether you're alone or with family, a sports fan or a music buff, there's plenty to keep you busy.

You can ponder a Picasso at the IU Art Museum. Feel the breeze in your hair at Lake Monroe. Climb a giant spiderweb at WonderLab. Stroll under green canopies on the "Rails to Trails" walking path. Experience exotic cuisines on Fourth Street. Or just sit on a bench downtown and watch the world go by.

Below are links to some of the many fun things to do in Bloomington and the surrounding area. MPRI has discounts available for some activities—please contact our social services staff for details.
